Patriotic Italian Sodas

Election day is today, and we got out and voted! How about you? With record turnouts expected, the future of our country and the direction thereof will be so different depending on who wins. Hopeful that our vote as a family makes a difference. To lighten the mood, and to celebrate our patriotic spirit, I made some flavorful Italian sodas for the family. Red, white & blue layered Italian soda deliciousness. (P.S.The trick for the layering comes in the speed of your pour, so be mindful of your pour.)

These tasted like a strawberry cream soda, and were a great treat for the family. Where do Italian sodas come from anyway? Italian sodas, while the name can lead you to believe were made in Italy, they were in fact made by Torani, in San Francisco by two immigrant brothers, Rinaldo & Ezilda Torre. They are a refreshing beverage that combine carbonated water with flavored syrups to create unique flavors! A fun and memorable beverage on a significant day in history.

Ingredients

  • 8oz club soda

  • 4 tablespoons of Torani Syrup (2 tablespoons blueberry & 2 tablespoons strawberry)

  • 3 tablespoon half & half

  • 3-4 ice cubes

  • whipped cream and a cherry for the top (optional)

Instructions

  1. Add ice cubes to each glass.

  2. Add in red syrup, then pour 8oz club soda into each glass. Very gently pour in the half & half, and ever so gently add the blue syrup.

  3. OPTIONAL: Top with whipped cream and a cherry.

  4. Serve layered with a straw, so that everyone can stir slightly while drinking.

Note: these measurements are very flexible and are based on the size of your glasses. Feel free to make adjustments that work for you and have fun experimenting.
